A Banana Spider

This black and yellow spider is a female Argiope aurantia , commonly known as the Black and Yellow Garden Spider, Writing Spider, Banana Spider or Corn Spider. She is living in our lantana at the moment. These spiders are carnivorous (they eat flies and grasshoppers) and harmless to humans.

This photo was chosen for Macro Monday.

  3. Great macro shot. Very impressive spider, always quite liked the smaller types of these bugs.

  4. Oooh – that spider is much more beautiful than my spider! Great shot, too!

  5. Sorry. I put the old link in by mistake.

  6. Nice image – it does look really big but maybe it’s the angle! Great closeup.
