Through the Sea Oats

The fencing, the sea oats and the beach grass in this photo are a photographer’s delight. Scenic and serene, they add a touch of green color to the varying shades of blue found in the sea and vast skies. As much as their beauty is appreciated, they serve a more valuable purpose.

Sand dunes, with the addition of fencing and stabilizing vegetation, are the primary barrier protection against wind and erosion that keeps businesses and homes from going into the ocean. They secure our shores and will allow us to enjoy our beaches for years to come. In Wrightsville Beach, NC, if you are caught walking on, or destroying a sand dune in any way, there is a set fine to pay.
